Meeting of the Nagorik Committee
2006 held
The
Third meeting of the Nagorik
Committee 2006 was held on Sunday,
30 April 2006 at the CPD Dialogue
Room. The meeting reviewed the first
regional dialogue held in Mymensingh
and took note of the suggestions put
forward by the participants. In the
meeting the committee took the
following decisions: 1) Issues
discussed in Mymensingh dialogue
will be carried forward in Jessore
regional dialogue to be held on May
13, 2006. 2) A list of citizen’s
aspirations was prepared at the
meeting which will be placed before
the participants at Jessore regional
dialogue for prioritization. 3) Six
core areas were primarily identified
for the vision paper: general
economic issues, social issues,
information and technology, external
issues and globalization, human
rights, rule of law and
institutional reforms, transparency,
accountability and responsiveness at
all levels of state activities. 4)
The committee solicited suggestions
from the people about their
aspirations and vision for
Bangladesh and comments on the six
core areas, which should be sent to
CPD (House 40/C, Road 11, Dhanmondi
R/A, Dhaka 1209) or through email
<election07@cpd-bangladesh.org>. 5)
The committee will meet the leaders
of the main political parties in
course of time and discuss about the
suggestions put together by the
people at various regional
dialogues. Soon they will also meet
the election commission,
anti-corruption commission and NBR.
6) The statement of expenditures
made in connection with the civil
society initiative will be posted
regularly on CPD website. 7) The
committee will take cognizance of
all the comments made in news media
with regard to the initiative.
The next meeting of the committee is
convened on 7 May 2006.
Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman,
CPD and Convener of the Nagorik
Committee 2006 chaired the meeting.
The meeting was attended by

Mujibul Huq, Dr Mahmuda Islam, Ms
Laila Rahman Kabir, Mr M Hafizuddin
Khan, Ambassador Abul Ahsan, Mr A S
M Shahjahan and Mr M Syeduzzaman. Dr
Debapriya Bhattacharya, Executive
Director, CPD attended the meeting
as Member Secretary of the Nagorik
Committee.
